Ben Skinner celebrates winning the European title in Jersey

JERSEY surfer Ben Skinner has finished the Association of Surfing Professionals’ World Longboard Tour as the highest placed Briton in tenth place.

In the final event held in the Maldives at the end of last month Skinner faced up to defending ASP champion Bonga Perkins in the first round. Out-manoeuvring the Hawaiian, Skinner scored 13.50 to Perkins’ 12.30 to end the defending champion’s hopes of retaining the title.

Unfortunately for Skinner, who is now based in Cornwall, he came unstuck in the next round against another Hawaiian, Ned Snow, losing out by four points scoring 11.75.

However, it was enough to secure the recently crowned European champion tenth place in the overall ratings with Australia’s Harley Ingeby taking the crown.
