TEENAGER Kelsey Le Maistre became the first Jersey girl to win a banded section title in an Open table tennis tournament in England last Saturday.

Playing at the Grantham 4* event in the East Midlands, the 14-year-old Le Rocquier School pupil won the Cadet girls under-15 band-one title 3-2, after trailing 2-1, against Middlesex’s Abisola Alausa, the number one seed.

And 16-year-old De La Salle College student Josh Band excelled in the under-18 boys band one section where he was finally eliminated 12-10, 12-14, 6-11, 7-11 in the semi-final, by third seed and eventual winner Daniel Fielding.

Le Maistre, from an entry of 33, finished runner-up in her group. She then saw off the challenge of several other group winners before going on to claim the title.
