THE Dandara Jersey Football Combination conceded their first goal this season in the FA Carlsberg National League System Cup on Saturday and it was enough to see them beaten 1-0 at Springfield by the Dorset Premier League.
It could have been a different story if the Combination had taken their opportunities in the second half, but they squandered chance after chance while also being denied by a goalkeeper in fine form and later named man-of-the-match.
The Combination, who missed out on reaching the semi finals, were second best in the first half against a strong and well organised Dorset side and the visitors capitalised in the 26th minute when Arron Corby nodded the ball towards goal and Alex Halloran, with his back to goal, flicked the ball into the net.
Combination manager Jon Welsh said: ‘It hurts to lose at the best of times but to lose to a side that you know you are capable of beating makes it even more painful.’

As the coach of The Dorset Premier League representative side, can I just congratulate Jersey with the way they played on Saturday. They were probably the best side we’ve ever faced in this competition & although you lost, the Manager & coaches must be very proud of their team. Yes, we were delighted with the result & having had the same happen to us last time in the NLS Cup, we know exactly how you feel. Thank you very much foryour hospitality & all the best for future competitions.
