TWO goals in a five-minute spell 17 minutes from the end took St Paul’s to 2-0 Wheway Memorial Trophy semi-final victory against Guernsey Northerners on Saturday.
At St Saviour, excellent strikes finally put paid to North’s resistance and booked the Saints a third cup final appearance of the season.
There was little between the teams throughout, but the introduction of midfielder Luke Watson for the second half proved to be the trump card as the former Jersey under-18 captain orchestrated play in midfield.
St Paul’s goals were superb. First, left-back Jack Cannon fired a perfect delivery into the heart of North’s defence for Craig Leitch to rise majestically between two defenders and nod the ball home.
Soon after came an equally good second with, captain Stuart André pinging the ball out to the right and Jordan Docherty’s pass into the middle flicked home by Mark Lucas after he got ahead of his marker.
