BRITISH Indoor champion Nicola Blandin has qualified for the National Outdoor Championships at Windsor in September.

At the first qualifying event of the season, at Ashfields Carriage Driving Centre in Essex, Blandin performed consistently over three days to secure first place in the open pony class.

Following an amazing indoor season with Troy, Blandin was back in partnership with her Welsh section B pony Carrwood Acclaim with whom she was intermediate champion in 2008.

The Jersey carriage driver said: ‘I was pleased with Acclaim’s performance; I gave him vital time off over the winter followed by some steady training and it really paid off.’

I’ve competed against Nicola several times and she’s a great driver. She and Kerry make a fine team and they are as friendly in victory as they are in (rare) defeat. She always drives precisely and sympathetically and her speeds in the obstacles in the indoor national finals were astonishing. We’ll see an excellent contest at Windsor in September again, I’m sure.
