I can’t wait to hear what the posties have to say on this one. Get the feeling it might be a bit of a BA-style debacle. Sometimes, hard as it may be, you’ve just got to face facts: You work for a failing business – it might not be about to collapse, but it’s not making the money it could/should. Failing voluntary redundancies being taken up, how do you expect things to proceed?

Hey stop wait a minute Mr postman

Here we go again, because the business I work for is losing money and needs to make cut backs I’m going to spit the dummy. I expect a job for life, just because everyone else is facing hardship I don’t expect it to happen to me. I’ll follow the example of the teachers and sulk til I get my way.

I think it’s great if the letter post service might end. How can they send me my Tax, rates, rent, electric, telephone, TV license, doctor, dentist, etc. bills, or the reminders and final demands. And to think, I will not get any offers from the unsolicited mail I didn’t ask for including that from States departments asking for my opinion, that they will totally ignore.

We have failing mail levels and hence need to make cut backs so lets strike and lose even more customers!

    When will unions learn?

The term ‘REDNECKS’ springs to mind…paints quite a picture… rolling around in a chld-like manner, on their backs, feet and arms in the air spitting their dummies out! ..goodness me, if anyone else in the same position had all the time in the world to cover their daily job which could be done in half the time in some cases…beggers belief! …get real !

No strange that, the teachers hold the island to ransom, threaten the education of our children and cause widespread panic amongst parents and the states give in. The teachers should be commended for their committment to their profession.

Can the posties tell us when they’re striking as the service is so sporadic now I doubt we’d notice. “to the occupier” crap to every house making important mail later & later, stamp prices rising monthly & threat after threat. If only those at the bottom felt all managers were in it with them they might not be so stroppy – pull together & stop whining.

The gripe with the Postal Staff, and I include office staff, is not pay offs because we have had them. It is replacing existing staff with cheaper folk with weaker employment and pension rights. Its all about pensions. If Jersey folk let the states carry on then everyone will suffer. Im hoping all staff opt for compulsory redundancies and they can collect unemployment benefit for 6 months and have all their bills paid too. Much more expensive for the States and exactly what they deserve!

When I read the headline, I thought that posties were actually going to take some action and deliver some post! Oh, well one can but dream…

I think the issue here is people being made redundant – only to be re employed at a lower rate or to have the jobs subcontracted to a third party. 37 admin staff are earmarked for this round of redundancy – it will be interesting to see how their functions are replaced…you might all be surprised!!!!!

I thought the idea of redundancy was to put someone down because there was no work, not to re-employ them for the same job but with less wages, is there not a law against this behavior ?, ohh no this is a states owned JERSEY company.

I don’t know enough about this to comment. But there is a common theme here; when some people on this island suffer, others are so quick to judge. Instead of sticking together and fighting our states, we all argue against each other. This is why our states get away with it all the time. And those of you against the strikes, think on this. If nobody ever stood up for themselves where would we all be now? I think overall we are in a better place thanks to some people taking action all through history. Good luck posties!!!
