200-year-old de Gruchy’s looks ahead with confidence

THE need to invest in the struggling retail sector has been emphasised to Island business leaders by the director of department store de Gruchy’s.
John Marquis told members of the Institute of Directors that it was vital that retail businesses continued to work to improve their product to meet customers’ expectation.
He pointed out that a recent Chamber of Commerce survey showed that trading was still subdued among most of St Helier’s retail outlets. And he said that infrastructure improvement and new products were essential to recovery in the high street.

Smegger… de Gruchy, no (‘s) at the end of that by the way, is actually a foreign owned company, has been for many years now. The Establishment is owned by Ulster Stores an Irish retail firm. The store and its director is overseen by Irish Front man Mr. Neville Moore, who rents the building from his brother, the owner.

There are simply too many shops selling female fashion. Many of the brands are pretty similar. Many of the younger customers who buy most fashion clothing are the ones with less money to spend and the wealthy will buy in place with better choice – ie London.

200 year old De Gruchys flattened to the ground.Now that would be nice!
Something so “nauseating” about this shop and its 1970,s are you being served layout.
Not to mention the rude and arrogant staff looking down there nose! “Its a 1970s shop”!!!
Time that somebody realised that the 21st century has arrived,and De Gruchys and its smelly sewage,are passe.
