WEAKER beer could be just the tonic to revive Jersey’s ailing pub trade, says the boss of one of the Island’s biggest bar chains.

David Le Quesne, the chief executive of Randalls Vautier, which owns 20 pubs across the Island, is calling on the Treasury Minister to reduce the duty on less potent brews and increase it on super-strength lagers.

He says that the price of a weaker pint could be slashed by around 15p under his proposals.

In the 2012 Budget, the States agreed to levies of 31p a pint for beer with a strength of 4.9 per cent or less and 47p for a pint of 5 per cent or more.

    cheers!

Still enjoy my few pints for 1.50 in the uk. Can,t justify the price of a pint here. I,ll stick to the supermarket as usual. No wonder the pubs are empty, even at weekends!

Stronger management may be an even better tonic.

Nearly everything I see in the Randalls Vautier portfolio sits within the also ran class. Sorry Mr Le Quesne, get your own house in order first, plenty to do there.

I think this is a good idea especially if it does deter people from drinking stronger lagers. Lower alcohol content has got to be better. I am sure that many people, especially those on their own do not enjoy drinking at home. We should try and revive a social drinking pub culture where people go out for a few drinks to meet up with their friends, and not to get extremely drunk and cause trouble, which is often caused by consuming stronger drinks.

I’d love to know where you can get beer for £1.50 a pint in the UK. Most places charge upwards of £3 a pint now. And most pubs are empty most of the time.

    Home Brew

Brew your own, 50p a pint and every bit as good as the lager they serve in pubs.

So much better than they were years ago, try it, you will be surprised how good it is.
