Work disputes up as pay cuts and freezes take toll

PAY cuts and wage freezes led to a sharp increase in the number of disputes between employee groups and employers last year, according to new figures released this week.

The annual report of the Jersey Advisory and Conciliation Service showed that there was a 50% increase in the number of requests for advice or conciliation on collective disputes and trade union recognition.

In 2011, the service had 97 inquiries and that rose to 150 last year.

JACS director David Witherington said that as a result of the continuing economic uncertainty, the majority of organisations had awarded pay rises at a level below inflation.

Good news then, soon JACS will have a perfectly administered system of employment, of course there will be no actual employees, still if the JFSC can do it to trust companies, then why should JACS not do the same.

The police too could have a perfectly law abiding population if they simply killed everyone. I can’t think why they have thought of this and put it into practise.

No one can say Jersey is not dedicated to the cause of bureaucratic efficiency, even to the point of insanity.

  James – JACS is a conciliation service offering advice to employers and employees alike. The JFSC is a regulator – their respective functions are not in any way comparable. Your comment above makes no sense.

    Ah Wilson, the road to hell is paved with good intentions – unfortunately if you leave the Civil Service to implement the fine ideals our States Members vote into law then they always find a way to corrupt those ideals to serve their own ends.
    
    I wrote to the director and said, I would like people to work for me but I don’t want to employ them how can I do it and he didn’t even bother to reply so no help there whatsoever

Out of approximately 50,000 workers in Jersey this only relates to 0.3% last year……..am I the only one who thinks this is a tiny, insignificant number????

IMO this is a non-story…….the JEP should concentrate on the REAL stories such as REAL unemployment levels and start challenging inept government decision making I think.
