Jersey Archive

The purpose of the Jersey Archive is to identify, select, collect, manage, preserve and provide access to the Island’s records on behalf of the whole community, promoting Jersey’s culture, heritage and sense of place both within its shores and beyond.

All readers require a Reader Ticket to gain access to the archive material. This can be obtained from the Jersey Archive reception upon production of a driving license or passport as proof of identity. There is no charge for the ticket or the personal use of archive sources.

The Jersey Archive computer catalogue enables visitors to identify records they wish to see. The catalogue can be consulted at the Jersey Archive and also over the Internet at www.jerseyheritagetrust.org. For those who cannot visit in person, archive staff will answer any written, e-mail or telephone enquiries about the records in its care.

A charge will be made for any detailed research using original sources undertaken by the archive staff at the rate of £20 per hour or part thereof plus the cost of any copies provided. A photocopy and photographic service is available. A self-service reader printer is available for printing out from microforms. Charges are made for all copies.

Uses of the Jersey Archive include Family History, House History, study of Jersey History, study of the German Occupation, school projects, study for educational purposes, records needed for residential qualifications, boundary disputes, testamentary disputes, vehicle registration and previous owners details, legal disputes and reminiscence therapy.
