Anne Dupré: 868

Sitting Deputies Gerard Baudains and Ian Gorst were challenged by three newcomers in St Clement
Anne Dupré, Philip Maguire and Jeremy Strickland are hoping to win one of the two seats. Deputy Baudains was unsuccessful in the recent election for Constable in the parish.
A hustings meeting was held at the Parish Hall on Tuesday, 18 November.
Deputy Gerard Baudains (61)
Main concerns
St Clement has four basic problems: continued urbanisation of what was a mainly rural parish, lack of youth facilities, increased traffic and lack of candidates for our honorary police. I would continue working on those areas. I have always opposed further urbanisation – from the 2002 Island Plan, through to the present day. I pressed for a pavement at Le Hocq and opposite the church – unfortunately opposed by my fellow Deputy of the time! I shall, if re-elected, continue to assist parishioners who ask for help and continue to represent St Clement to the best of my ability.

Deputy Ian Gorst (39)
Main concerns
I have consistently fought inappropriate development and ‘garden grabbing’ in St Clement. Stopping over-development remains the main priority for the parish. I have co-ordinated a parish response to the Island Plan Review. This review will be the most important process in safeguarding St Clement’s green fields into the future. I have a proven track record in representing the parish’s interests in this area. The other major issue facing the parish is one of road safety and traffic speed. I have supported parishioners in their fight to change speed limits and hope that the States will approve a review of existing policy.

Main concerns
Above all to preserve the nature and beauty of the parish for future generations to enjoy. To address individual concerns of parishioners, and represent their needs where appropriate. To do all I can to stop parishioners from having to sell their homes to pay for long-term care. Provide sheltered accommodation where needed. Protect our countryside from overdevelopment. Target reckless car drivers. Foster community spirit. Oppose any landfill in the RAMSAR zone. Implement an allotment scheme.
