Dragon boat racing
Wednesday 21st September 2011, 10:00AM BST.
HUNDREDS of Islanders competed in the Condor Ferries Dragon Boat festival on Saturday, raising thousands of pounds for charity.
A total of 57 teams took part, with nine teams competing in the final. As reported yesterday, a collision meant that the final had to be re-run, with the Rampant Rambos, with staff from Design Dimensions, winning in a time of 1 min 5 sec, followed by the Jersey Water Polo team and then the police-entered group Hello, Hello 5-0.
The Highest Fundraising Team award was given to Christine’s Crew, one of two HSBC teams, which raised £7,000, and the Best Dressed Team award went to Hawksford’s Barmy Army, who were from Hawksford International, for their guerrilla fighting theme.
Despite the wet and windy weather more than 500 people attended the event at the Albert Pier, which raised money for Jersey Hospice Care.
