WHILE most Islanders spent Boxing Day worrying about nothing more important than what to eat or drink next, or whether they could be bothered to go to the sales, members of the Jersey Green Room Club had far more important things on their minds.

Once again they were taking to the stage at the Jersey Opera House to begin their annual two-week pantomime run, this year with a production of the fairytale classic, Sleeping Beauty.

As ever, Islanders have already been coming out in force to give the festive show their support, and they haven’t been disappointed. A virtually full house – largely made up of children, hyper-active from the festive abundance of sweets – joyfully booed, hissed and screeched their way through the 2½-hour show.

Written and directed by BBC Jersey’s Matthew Price, the show also features plenty of local references, including numerous digs at our States Members, as well as a reference to Waitrose’s arrival in the Island this year and a remark about the current state of the postal service.

• Sleeping Beauty continues at the Jersey Opera House until Sunday 8 January.
