Climate change
A new guide to the potential effects on Jersey of climate change has been produced by Jersey’s Environment Department.
‘Turning Point – the ECO-ACTIVE guide to the science and impacts of climate change’ was launched officially by Environment Minister Senator Freddie Cohen.
He said that the book clearly set out scientifically endorsed facts on the way the world’s climate was changing and interpreted what that meant for Jersey. ‘Accelerated climate change as a result of human activity is an urgent issue and we have reached a turning point requiring immediate coordinated responses,’ he said.
Senator Cohen added that extensive use had been made of local and national expertise to bring together an authoritive publication. ‘I would like to thank the many authors who have contributed their detailed knowledge whilst making this book highly accessible,’ he said. ‘I encourage everyone to read this appraisal which highlights the urgency with which we must all act to reduce our contributions to greenhouse gases.
‘The ECO-ACTIVE website provides a wealth of information on how we can all reduce our personal environmental impact. Later this year the Council of Ministers will bring forward an Energy White Paper for States debate that will set out the government’s response to the challenges posed by global climate change’.
