Newspapers
The Jersey Evening Post has been publishing in Jersey since 1890. The paper is printed Monday to Saturday and can be bought from newsagents and many other retail outlets across the Island. The earliest copies can be picked up from the newspaper office at Five Oaks, St Saviour and the news stand outside BHS in King Street, St Helier. National newspapers are flown in every morning and are readily available in shops, except when the airport is shrouded in fog.
Online
There are a range of websites that provide local information. This is Jersey carries daily news from the Jersey Evening Post, up to the minute Weather and Travel information and Classified Advertising. Most of the key business and civic organisations in the Island have their own websites and there are many smaller community sites to explore.
Radio
Jersey is served by two radio stations provided by the BBC broadcasting on 88.8FM and a commercial station, Channel 103.7 FM.
Television
Jersey has two local television stations. Channel Television, La Pouquelaye, St. Helier, broadcasts at 6pm and 11:20pm. Telephone: 01534 816816. BBC Spotlight Channel Islands, 18 Parade Road, St. Helier, broadcasts at 6:30pm and 10:30pm on BBC 1. Telephone: 01534 870000.
Satellite
Satellite installation is available to those living outside of town. The Jersey phonebook has a list of companies that hook up satellite and television aerials. Electronics stores have the forms needed to sign up for the Sky digital package of your choice and can arrange satellite installation at the same time. French television also is available in Jersey. A French aerial is needed to receive the broadcasts. For more information, contact the companies that provide satellite and aerial installation.
TV Licence
If you own a TV, you must buy a TV licence. The licence lasts for a year.
If you move, you must transfer your licence from your old address to be properly licensed to use a TV.
You do not have to pay for a licence if you do not use your set to watch or record television programmes. An Enquiry Officer may visit your property to confirm the situation. For more information, contact TV Licensing Jersey on 0870 241 6468, via post at TV Licensing Jersey, Bristol BS98 1TL or online at www.tvlicensing.co.uk.
