HEALTH and Social Services want to spend £50,000 on employing a trainer to teach nurses self-defence.

They are keen that staff should be trained in how to deal with the violence and aggression they may face in the course of their work. The most recent victim to suffer in this way was a nurse from the accident and emergency department, who was assaulted.Acknowledging that problems of violence and aggression towards staff and service users do occur, the committee are asking for £50,000 next year to pay for a trainer and related services to keep their staff up to date with defence techniques.
