Grab a spade and get digging!
Wednesday 31st December 2003, 12:00AM GMT.
ISLANDERS are invited to don their gardening gloves, grab a spade and head for St Catherine at the weekend to get the 1204-2004 celebrations off to a flying start.
Over Saturday and Sunday a lasting legacy of Jersey’s unique constitutional links with the Crown – La Bouas’sie du Duc, the Duke’s Wood – will be planted in five fields behind St Catherine’s lifeboat station.Everyone can join in, and 100 of the 387 who responded to an appeal to buy the 800 trees are expected to turn out on Saturday.
The chairman of the 1204-2004 celebrations, former Senator Nigel Quérée, will lead the work, and it will be co-ordinated by Mike Stentiford and his Jersey Conservation Volunteers.
