Trippers rescued after being swept overboard
Friday 2nd January 2004, 12:00AM GMT.
FOUR men who went out on a New Year’s Day round-the-Island boat trip were rescued after three of them fell overboard several times in very heavy seas.
In a rescue which lasted five and a half hours, both St Catherine and St Helier lifeboats were launched, the former having to limp back to Bonne Nuit for a second time after the port engine seized.Although the RIB was well-equipped, the St Catherine’s lifeboat crew expressed concern that the owner had attempted the round-the-Island trip in a 16-foot boat when a full gale was forecast and timings meant that the end of the journey would be in darkness.
