Island Games a priority

Ansbacher Channel Islands AC secretary Andrew Winnie has hit out at suggestions Jersey athletes would add to NatWest Island Games withdrawals should next year’s Shetland Games clash with a Southern League match.

That’s absolute rubbish.

The priority is the Island Games,’ said Winnie, Jersey’s athletics development officer.’The Island Games is a major thing.

You are representing the island.

The league will have to take second place.’Anyway, we’ve got enough athletes to cover.

The Channel Islands Athletics Club are big enough to cope.’
