MOORE Stephens Jersey are concentrating on improving their position in the English Counties League Division IV table this weekend with matches away to Somerset and Avon.
Jersey are currently fourth, on goal-average, behind Wiltshire, and the two teams they play in the next couple of days are currently lower than them in the table, although Avon have a game in hand.Island manager and coach Linda Andrews said: ‘I’m confident we can beat Somerset, while Avon will be a much tougher game as they have a young squad with most of their players turning out for Bath University.’We’ll use the Somerset game to assess our squad and see where we are going for Sunday’s match.
Despite losing to Wiltshire by a couple of goals I’m pleased with the form we have shown in our previous two games.’Avon, I think, will challenge for the title and if we can win against them then that will give us a good marker for the season.’Jersey are boosted by the return of defender Mary Blampied. The former England U19 trialist was unavailable for the first two league matches.Jersey trained last weekend and Andrews said her players worked hard on combination drills and they were all linking well together.Jersey squad: Shelby Houghton (captain), Jackie Norman, Zoe Hotton, Jenna Bushell, Carol McKeon, Hayley Miller, Jane Le Feuvre, Holly Oakes, Ellen Richings, Sharon West and Mary Blampied.
Also travelling are JNA president Ann Halliwell, umpire Jenny Le Cocq and assistant coach Gill Kaye.
