Monday 19th January 2004, 12:00AM GMT.

RESIDENTS concerned that their children were negotiating a ‘death trap’ on the way to school every day in Grouville have finally had their complaints answered.

They have won a year-long battle with Public Services to get a new lollipop crossing in Rue de la Ville ès Renards, the main road into Gorey from the south.Starting today, it will be in operation from 8.30 am to 9 am and again from 2.55 pm to 3.15 pm.States police road safety officer Philip Blake said: ‘We would ask all motorists to take extra care when driving in the area while the patrol is in operation during term time.’Grouville Deputy Carolyn Labey, who described the busy road crossing as a ‘death trap’, said it had taken far too long for action to be taken, despite the protests of many people in the parish. She added: ‘I am delighted that this school has finally got its crossing because, in cases like this, children’s safety is of paramount importance.’
