LES Quennevais RFC Sharks are through to the semi-final of the Hampshire Plate at home against Millbrook on 29 February having beaten Sandown and Shanklin 24-13 at St Peter yesterday afternoon.

Leading 12-10 at half-time with tries from Dave Marsh and Matt Smith plus a Gary Rousseau conversion, they scored two further tries from No 8 Curtis Hutson (converted by Rousseau) and scrum-half Will Church.Les Quennevais are the only team outside the Hampshire county league to play in this competition.

Millbrook, their semi-final opponents, play in Hampshire Division I and in yesterday’s quarter-final beat Eastleigh 13-22 away from home.The other semi-final is between Fareham Heathens and Alresford.Meanwhile Jersey RFC’s 1st XV centre Ross Allan will be in the starting line-up for the Hampshire under-20s opening match in the county championship against Sussex at Trojans on 1 February.This follows a tremendous performance in the county side’s 19-11 win over Dorset and Wiltshire at Trojans RFC on Sunday.Although originally on the bench, a late withdrawal meant he played the full 80 minutes at No 12, a position coach Peter Allen has worried about for most of the season.Solid in defence, however, and quick for any half-chance, Allan played his part in a game which saw Hampshire score three tries and two conversions to one try and two penalties.Jersey hooker Josh Chamier also played a full second half and may well be on the bench for the Sussex game, although he will probably not start as Hampshire’s regular hooker, James Mildenhall, from Havant Academy, is a former London Divisional player.The Hampshire under-20s team was captained by former Wales Under-18 captain Tommy Booth.
