States rents to go up
Monday 19th January 2004, 12:00AM GMT.
STATES tenants will pay more in rent from April with some having to find £50 per week more.
The basic 3.5 per cent increase to be charged on the 4,500 States rental homes was announced last year in the budgets of the Housing Committee.
But tenants in 550 of those homes face higher rent rises as their properties have been improved. However, Housing say that of these 550, about 450 are rented by tenants on the abatement scheme and their overall rent payment will not change. The remaining 100 or so tenants face rises ranging from £8 per week to £50 per week.
The highest increases will be phased in over three years.
