Longer period for driving licences?

Friday 23rd January 2004, 12:00AM GMT.

DRIVING licences are likely to last for ten years instead of five if the Committee of Constables agree to a request from Home Affairs to comply with a recent EU directive.

If that system goes ahead, licences would be renewable on the birthdate of the driver ten years later. From about June, new driving licences are likely to be in credit card style form but all the paper licences issued recently for five years will remain valid throughout that period.Full report in today’s JEP, on sale at 1.15 pm.
