THE decision to give up to £1.6 million from the Tourism Development Fund to the development of La Chaire sub-tropical gardens could be overturned.
Following 15 minutes of questions by States Members yesterday on how much funding had been approved for the project and why, St John Deputy Phil Rondel lodged a proposition which could bring the matter to debate within the next four to five weeks.Deputy Rondel will propose to the States that: ‘no public funds should be committed to the restoration or development of the gardens at Château La Chaire private hotel, Rozel, until the States have debated the project and approved any expenditure.’Yesterday Members expressed concern over the graduated funding being offered by the Tourism Development Fund to get the project off the ground, saying the town park scheme was more deserving of the funds and those wanting to carry out the development should find a way to fund it themselves.
