Thursday 5th February 2004, 12:00AM GMT.
FOUR members of the Jersey Association of Windsurfers hope to compete in the Highland Spring HIHO 2004 event later this year in the British Virgin Islands between 26 June and 4 July.
We are absolutely thrilled,’ said JAWS president Ian Atkinson.’The event is the dream of every windsurfer, and for us to be supported by the title sponsor Highland Spring makes the effort even easier.’As well as providing financial support for equipment and to encourage recruitment of new juniors to the sport, the sponsors are keen to promote the sport in Jersey and their own competition in the Virgin Islands, where competitors race aboard identical equipment on a six-day 150-mile odyssey through the islands.UniqueAnother unique feature is that all participants are accommodated aboard a fleet of captained catamarans which follow the windsurfers’ race from island to island. The Jersey racers will be joined by competitors from the UK, Denmark, France, Italy, Brazil, the US and the Caribbean.
