BUSINESS confidence is being rocked by government instability according to former Senator Pierre Horsfall.
Now the chairman of Jersey Finance Ltd, he says that the votes of no confidence in States committees and the general feeling of political disarray could undermine economic recovery.’Cyril Le Marquand famously said confidence is the name of the game and it applies as much today as when he said it,’ said Mr Horsfall, who retired from politics in 2002 while president of Policy and Resources.
‘Confidence has been returning to the industry and in turn it needs confidence in government, but that is difficult when the government does not seem to have confidence in itself.
There is no doubt that there are people in business who are seriously worried about activities in the States,’ he said.’It is immensely destabilising at a time when what we need is exactly the reverse.’Two motions have been proposed in the States to remove the Environment and Public Services and Housing Committees, while a third is probable against Home Affairs by Deputy Bob Hill.
