Protest group to step up pressure on States
Monday 9th February 2004, 12:00AM GMT.
THE so-called angry men behind the ‘Black Tuesday’ Budget protest plan to become an unofficial watchdog on States waste.
They are even considering putting a candidate up for the forthcoming by-election on an anti-tax-rise platform. They remain convinced that the cost of running the public sector in Jersey is too high and that the States are not committed to making savings.
The group plan to launch a website so that ‘whistleblowers’ can tell their stories of waste and bureaucracy.Spokesman Roger Trower said: ‘We will carry on because the job is too important not to.
Look at what they’ve done so far this year.
They’re spending £500,000 on a Hansard system which we don’t need and which nobody will read.
There’s another £100,000 on the Community Relations Trust and £500 to encourage every employer to suddenly disregard the Regulation of Undertakings Law by taking on unemployed people.’
