St Ouen move closer to Division I

ST OUEN moved a step closer to gaining a Division I spot after they won on Saturday and the two teams immediately behind them took points off one another.

St John and St Clement drew 2-2 leaving St John now six points behind St Ouen, from a game played more, with fourth-placed St Clement 11 points adrift of second place but they do have two games in hand.Scott Quarrell hit his fourth hat-trick of the season for St Ouen, 5-3 home winners against Beeches Old Boys.

Rob Sanford and Matt Smith were also on the mark for the winners and Simon Logan, Andy McKnight and Martin James for the losers.Rob Cameron and a St Clement defender notched for the hosts at St John while Michael Teixeira and John Molloy netted for the visitors.Jersey Nomads completed a league double over St Martin by returning 5-1 victors from the parish pitch.

Carl Winn bagged a pair and Paul Lees, Paul Starkey and John Leonard singles for Nomads.

Alun aThorne hit St Martin’s consolation.Jersey Wanderers increased their lead at the top of the C Division following a 2-1 win against Beeches Old Boys at Les Quennevais.

Carlos Teles and Martin Staines were on target for the leaders in reply to Henry Davison’s opener for the Old Boys.Wanderers’ win completed a league double over the Old Boys, but full credit to the losers as there were 14 goals between the teams in their first meeting earlier in the season.SquanderedRozel Rovers lost ground on Wanderers after they squandered a 2-0 lead at Le Couvent against St John.

The parish side fought back to lead 3-2 and after being pegged back to three-apiece the Saints then grabbed a fourth to record a 4-3 win.

It was St John’s fourth consecutive victory and it lifted them up a couple of places to fourth.Steve Brennan (two), Steve Aubignac and Paul Roche scored for St John and Peter Hawley and Sean Anderton for the Rovers whose other goal was an own goal.Grouville joined Rozel in joint-second place after they shared four goals away to St Clement.

Paul Tumelty hit a brace for St Clement while Jason Byrne and Paul Leggett slotted in singles for Grouville.Gil Campbell (two), Peter Flambard, Dave Wright and Phil Faulkner netted in St Ouen’s 5-3 win away to St Peter to avenge a 5-1 home league defeat earlier in the season.

St Peter’s marksmen were Ian Tardivel, Colin Jones and Jon Welsh.
