Tuesday 10th February 2004, 12:00AM GMT.
EMMA Martins has been chosen to become the Island’s new data protection registrar.
Mrs Martins, who is the current deputy data protection registrar, has been selected by the States Appointments Board to take over from Michael Smith when he retires at the end of next month – however, the States still has to formally approve the board’s decision.
A proposition to appoint Mrs Martins has been lodged by the Finance and Economics Committee.
She beat four other candidates to the job, who all came from outside the States.
rs Martins, who joined the data protection office in April 2001 from the police administration support unit, which she managed, will take charge of the department of four (with the role of Deputy Registrar now vacant) at the beginning of April.
