A WORLD indoor bowls event due to be staged in Jersey is in doubt because of a lack of funds.
The world under-25s singles men’s and women’s competition is scheduled to take place at Grainville at the end of October.
The World Indoor Bowls Council have accepted Jersey’s bid to hold the event, but the Jersey Indoor Bowls Association (JIBA) say they cannot afford to meet the expenses. At the last event hosted in Jersey, competitors from Australia, Malaysia, Israel and Canada attended, and bought around 130 people to the Island. But the JIBA say that they will not be able to pay for the cost of competitors’ travel within the Island and their accommodation, and that they will not be able to offer any funding without sponsorship.
The end result could be that the World Indoor Bowls Council decide to hold the event elsewhere, which according to the manager of the JIBA, would be a shame.
