States jobs: 175 may go

BETWEEN 118 and 175 States posts and up to £15.7 million will be cut by this year’s fundamental spending review.

The proposed cuts include the service savings that committee presidents offered at the fundamental spending review meeting earlier this week and the efficiency savings that chief officers are trying to deliver.Committee presidents offered potential savings of up to £22 million and 375 posts at this week’s meeting, which were designated ‘very likely’, ‘possible’ or ‘unlikely’.The presidents were asked by the Finance and Economics Committee to find five per cent savings from within their budgets by identifying the services that were least necessary.
