Why one Deputy is going nuts about nuts!
Sunday 15th February 2004, 12:00AM GMT.
PARISH Deputies try their best to help their parishioners but the squirrels in Deputy Phil Rondel’s appear to have been taking advantage of his hospitality.
The St John Deputy has been feeding the many squirrels who come into his garden for some time but he was more than surprised to find that the squirrels were storing their nuts inside his car.
‘The parishioners of St John are known to be resourceful and careful but the squirrels have taken it a little bit too far.
There were hundreds of nuts under the bonnet of my four-by-four and it took me ages to get them all out,’ he said.
The Deputy hangs four squirrel feeders in his garden and fills them with sacks of nuts.
‘The squirrels were evidently looking for somewhere warm to store their nuts so they could retrieve them at a later time.
‘How on earth they got into the car in the first place I don’t know,’ he said.
