MIDFIELDER Ged McConnell continued his excellent goalscoring form of late to steer Jersey Scottish to a comfortable flybe.

Combination Division I victory against struggling St Peter at Springfield last night.

Despite nearly ballooning an early chance over the Robin Hood end perimeter fence from six yards, the midfielder then adjusted his sights to score four of Scottish’s six goals in front of his biggest supporter – his mum Marjorie who is in the Island for a few days from Scotland!Ross Crick was also on target for the Scots with their other goal coming at a near post off the boot of a St Peter defender for the opening goal of the game. The win lifted Scottish six points clear of champions Trinity, the latter who have two games in hand.

They have to play the Scots again for league points late next month.Scottish official Jimmy Young said: ‘We were slow starters and I put that down to many of our players being on Island duty last week and not with us.

We had a good chat about it at half time and it was much improved after the break.’Ged took his goals well and we could have had a few more but for some fine goalkeeping from Gareth Bayley.’St Peter manager Keith Le Cornu said: ‘Scottish played quite well overall, their movement was very good.

We worked exceptionally hard in the first half and we were a bit unlucky with both of the goals.’A big plus for us was being able to give some youngsters some time on the pitch.

It’s a good experience for them and they all did reasonably well.’It’s tight at the bottom but we’ll keep working hard and hopefully we’ll gain enough points to stay up.’Scottish: Jamie Brewster; Scot Devlin, Gordon Brodie, Craig Ferey, Ryan Lumsden, Ged McConnell, Charlie Smith, Chris McNabb, James Scott, Ross Crick, Mark Brown.
