Football:Two Island sides tour south coast this weekend

TWO Jersey football squads are on tour to Southampton this weekend.

Jersey’s U18s have games organised against Southampton Institute on Sunday and Southampton’s U16 Youth Academy on Monday while Jersey’s Primary Schools’ squad play four matches on consecutive days, starting tomorrow against Gosport and Fareham followed by Newbury, Vale of White Horse and Poole and East Dorset on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday respectively.Both squads leave the Island tomorrow morning and they will watch the Premiership game at St Mary’s Stadium between Southampton and Everton and, hopefully, meet up afterwards with Jerseyman Graeme Le Saux, Southampton’s left back.U18 manager Jon Welsh has also arranged for his squad to visit Southampton Institute on Monday for a tour of facilities.

They will have a taster lecture from the BA (Hons) Sports Studies with Business programme and enjoy a social evening with current students to have a taste of student life.Mark De Luca and Tony Hoyland are in charge of the Primary Schools’ squad and this year the group has had six pre-tour coaching sessions and games against Year-7 teams from Victoria College, Les Quennevais and De La Salle College.Jersey’s squads are, U18s: Frazer Siddall, Danny Hughes, Nathan Jégou, Tom Poole, David Syvret, Neil Crowell, Stephen Purdie, Ryan Durand, Peter Vincenti, Jamie Allan, Luke Watson, Matt Purdie, Sam Dewhurst, Brett Pitman, Bradley Russell and Carl Stoodley.

Joel Speight will join up with the Jersey party after he has played for Southampton away to Wimbledon on Saturday.
