Vandals target Town Church
Monday 23rd February 2004, 12:00AM GMT.
VANDALS caused an estimated £1,500 worth of damage at the Town Church yesterday.
Church staff discovered the damage at 5.30 pm, shortly before Evensong, when they saw that the brass eagle lectern had been pushed over and damaged and two flag poles/standards had been snapped. This morning, the Dean, the Very Rev John Seaford, said he was very upset that people could behave in such a way.’I don’t think the action was malicious in the same way that the synagogue was attacked in the past.
There was no graffiti or desecration – it seems more likely to have been silly behaviour,’ he said.
