Future looks bright, says banker

THE finance industry in Jersey is filled with a new optimism and the future looks good, a leading banker told last night’s tax meeting in St Brelade.

Clive Jones, the managing director of Citigroup, was offering a small ray of light among the doom and gloom of tax increases and public sector cutbacks.He said: ‘Jersey is representing a very, very good calling card now for the international finance industry.

We don’t have much to worry about.’His words were echoed by another veteran of the industry, Finance and Economics Committee member Deputy Geoffrey Grime.

He said that there was a fresh atmosphere of enthusiasm and creativity in the industry as professionals devised new ways to exploit recovering markets.
