Football disturbances: Two face prison terms
Friday 2nd July 2004, 12:00AM BST.
TWO Jerseymen accused by police of being ring-leaders in last week’s football disturbances have been told they may face prison sentences.
David Alan Couillard (23) and Shane Aron Langley (33) were said to have incited the crowd of England supporters in Cattle Street to break through the police lines to get to the Portuguese supporters.
Both men admitted causing a breach of the peace, although they denied police claims that they swung punches at officers and the prosecution withdrew the allegation.
The Magistrate, Ian Le Marquand, adjourned the case against them for background reports to be prepared prior to sentencing.
He warned them: ‘I take a very serious view of this incident.
Inciting a crowd to acts of violence is a serious matter and I will be considering a prison sentence for both of you.’
