Opera House provides stage for business functions

THE Jersey Opera House is offering itself as an Aladdin’s cave of possibilities for business events.
The marketing campaign starts in earnest this week, with the publication of a new brochure, ‘The art of business’, outlining the facilities available for conferences and corporate events.
Deputy theatre director Irene Hamilton explained that although many people viewed the Opera House simply as a place of entertainment, it was in fact an ‘ideal’ venue for business events during the daytime, although until now the multi-purpose options had been largely neglected.
Earlier this year the Jersey Opera House won the top accolade in the Jersey Awards for Enterprise for surviving a financial crisis.
‘To be told that we can hold our own in the business world has made us slightly more confident,’ said theatre director Ian Stephens, ‘but it’s also about trying to change people’s perception of what the Opera House can be used for.
Currently many corporate seminars take place in hotels, but the purpose-built Opera House stage and auditorium provides a superb platform from which to get a message across.
‘The stage is one metre high and presenters love it because although it’s a massive space it feels very intimate and you can see everyone’s faces, so you get feedback straight away,’ said Mrs Hamilton.
‘The acoustics are perfect and if you’re confident, you don’t need a microphone.
