Powerboat race death inquest opens
Friday 2nd July 2004, 12:00AM BST.
THE woman killed in a powerboat racing accident last Saturday, Susan Wright (44), died instantaneously from multiple injuries, an inquest heard yesterday.
At the opening of the inquest at Morier House, Deputy Viscount Peter de Gruchy said the brief hearing was being held so that the body could be released to the family for cremation.
Investigating officer Stephen Hingston said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding Mrs Wright’s death.
He told the inquest that Mrs Wright had been taking part in a Thunderduck boat race at Le Braye Beach in St Brelade on Saturday afternoon in a boat being piloted by Christopher de Ste Croix.
Their boat was in collision with another vessel in the race and as a direct result she had sustained fatal injuries.
A letter from consultant pathologist Dr Peter Southall – who carried out the post mortem – read to the inquest by Mr de Gruchy said that she had died instantaneously.
Routine toxicology report results are still awaited.
Mr Southall gave the cause of death of the mother of four children as having been from multiple injuries.
Mr de Gruchy adjourned the inquest until further inquiries had been completed.
A separate investigation into the accident is being carried out by the Royal Yachting Association.
