THE States are to be asked to rescind a decision to allow 72 new homes to be built close to St Peter’s Village.

Planning took the decision last week even though the plans had been consistently opposed by parishioners on the grounds that too many homes would be crammed onto fields 181, 182 and 183.

Now parish Deputy Collin Egré intends to take a proposal to the States in a bid to stop the development, approved by the Environment and Public Services Committee, from going ahead.

But it may already be too late.

Environment and Public Services vice-president and Planning sub-committee chairman Deputy Jackie Hilton said that the full committee had given in-principle approval and would fight moves by Deputy Egré to alter the scheme.

She said that young people were desperate for the new homes the development would provide.

She added that the scheme fitted in with the Island Plan approved by the States two years ago and that the density of 61.5 homes per acre on the site was well inside the 70 units per acre guidelines which the committee follow.
