Commonwealth ambition for table tennis
Thursday 8th July 2004, 12:00AM BST.
JERSEY’S players gained a wealth of experience playing in the 16th Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships recently in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
And should Jersey be able to raise the finance they could be hosting the event in 2007.
Island player Paul Marshall said: ‘Hosting the event in 2007 would be fantastic both for the sport and Tourism.
It will be expensive as the hosts pay for accommodation and food while the players pay for their travel.
I really hope Jersey can finance such a big event as this.’ Marshall said: ‘We did as well as we expected and we would have exceeded expectation if we’d beaten Brunei.
We gave them a very good game but unfortunately we lost.’ Full story in today’s JEP.
