Touch:Aussies impressed by Jersey standards
Friday 9th July 2004, 12:00AM BST.
JERSEY touch teams were in action last night, in warm-up matches prior to the European Championships and Rest of the World events which start at the Rugby Club tomorrow morning.
In the Mixed game against the world’s best, Australia, Jersey lost only 4-0 while the Men’s side lost 8-0, with their opponents very complimentary about the standards of Jersey’s play.
The Men beat Germany 9-1 and the Ladies were also successful, beating their German counterparts 4-1, with both those scores boding well for the Europeans proper.
Morag Obarska said that, despite the appalling weather of the previous 48 hours, the pitches had drained very well and were dry to play on.
‘The pitches are being marked today and are in good condition.
The grass won’t be cut so will be a little bit long, but it’s looking great and the reseeding has been very successful.
We’re looking forward to an excellent weekend.’
