Save our countryside
Monday 12th July 2004, 12:00AM BST.
CALLS for greater political commitment to the future of farming and rural life were made at the weekend launch of a new countryside campaign.
Speakers at a forum to launch the Jersey Evening Post Country Crossroads campaign urged States Members to consult more fully and to bring rural issues higher up the political agenda at a time of change and difficulty for the farming industry.
The forum was staged at the JEP West Show, which attracted thousands of Islanders and visitors to a two-day celebration of the Island’s country traditions.
A range of local and visiting expert speakers gave their views on the current rural situation and the prospects for the future.
