Car gets that sinking feeling
Thursday 15th July 2004, 12:00AM BST.
A CAR was submerged by the incoming tide yesterday afternoon after it became bogged down on Bel Royal beach.
The Mitsubishi Shogun was being driven by its owner, Charlie Sanguy, to launch his nephew’s boat when the wheels sank into the sand.
Mr Sanguy said that he was trapped inside for a time and had water up to his chest before he managed to get out.
He said: ‘When the tow trucks arrived, I was told that they were not insured to come on to the beach, so the vehicle could not be removed.
If we’d had a winch or something, I might have been able to get it out.’
