Privy Councillor for JCRA post?

Thursday 15th July 2004, 12:00AM BST.

THE Jersey Competition Regulatory Authority will be chaired by the UK Shadow Lord Chancellor, Lord Kingsland, if the States agree next week.

A Privy Councillor, Judge of the Crown Court, and an economist, Lord Kingsland has been recruited by the Economic Development Committee to replace Patrick McNutt.

Lord Kingsland’s salary will be £37,000.

Last year Mr McNutt was awarded an annual pay packet of almost £100,000 for his part-time contribution.

The appointment, which will be for a three-year term, is now a matter of some urgency, following the recent States approval of the new Competition Law and the ongoing drive to end several States monopolies, in particular telecoms and the postal service.
