Bank damaged in boat rescue
Friday 16th July 2004, 12:00AM BST.
DAMAGE was caused to a coastal bank at St Catherine this week when a digger was used to right a yacht damaged during recent storms.
St Martin Centenier Mike Messiter said that the damage was mainly scarring that would probably grow back over the next couple of years.
The yacht Springtime was damaged during last week’s storms.
The yacht’s owner had originally asked South Pier Marine to right the vessel and remove the mast.
However, South Pier director Paul Battrick said that when they originally went to do the work over a week ago, they ran out of time.
‘We had righted another boat and by that time it was getting dark, the rocks were slippery and the mobile crane driver had been working a 12-hour shift.
As there was no immediate danger, we agreed to leave it to another day,’ he said.
