Take that back

AN attack on the Channel Islands, including allegations of wartime profiteering and current links with ‘secretive arms dealers’, has been launched by one of Britain’s leading journalists in an influential national newspaper.
The Jersey authorities are demanding a retraction from the Sunday Times, whose star critic A A Gill used his television column in yesterday’s edition to pour scorn on the islands’ history and current role.
Although it was couched in his trademark ironic humour, Mr Gill’s review of the new Occupation-based ITV drama serial Island at War is provocatively offensive to Islanders and could also be viewed as damaging to Jersey’s image.
The attack comes within weeks of the States approving a Strategic Plan which includes a commitment to ‘raise Jersey’s profile and enhance the Island’s international personality’.
