Turnaround time for tourism industry?
Tuesday 20th July 2004, 12:00AM BST.
A STRATEGY to turn around the seven-year decline in the Island’s tourism industry has today been presented to politicians.
It sets out key objectives to bring in more visitors and increase the average amount they spend, together with a wish-list of capital projects including a spa and hydrotherapy centre; a new golf course and country pursuits centre; new hotels; a flagship event or attraction of international profile; and a purpose-built conference and entertainment complex.
Other proposals include Jersey becoming the leading organic and green island; Jersey becoming recognised as a centre of excellence for marine conservation; modernisation of the gaming laws; a screen commission and film fund; and a package of financial incentives to stimulate investment.
A new brand proposition, ‘the full-bodied flavour of Island life’, has been identified as the core of the tourism offer to underpin product development and marketing.
