Pentagon level after beating the bankers
Wednesday 21st July 2004, 12:00AM BST.
PENTAGON joined NatWest on 42 points at the top of Division III last night after defeating the bankers by seven wickets on FB.
The top-of-the-table match was a closely-fought affair with former Channel Islands snooker champion Karl Le Fèvre scoring the winning runs with three balls to spare.
Le Fèvre, who was no doubt enjoying work today as he is employed by NatWest, cracked a boundary to complete a half-century while also winning the match.
Mainstay Earlier NatWest’s in-form Mark Whitsey was the mainstay of his Club’s innings with an unbeaten 60.
NatWest totalled 102 for 2 after the 12 overs with Peter Blackburn returning excellent bowling figures for the victors with one wicket for eight runs from three overs.
Simon Varley, NatWest captain, said: ‘Pentagon played well in all departments.
We ran them very close but they deserved to win.’ Centurions B defeated nine-man Barclays at FB1.
For the winners Haydon Druce produced a devastating spell of bowling taking five wickets for 11 runs.
Tim Kearsey was the mainstay of Barclays’ innings with 32 while Elenco 29 (four 4s) and Darren Edwards, 27 not out, guided Centurions B to victory in the ninth over.
Edwards lofted a six into the car park to win the match, his 27 runs coming from 15 deliveries.
In the other match, Walkovers, 106 for 9, defeated Sloggers, 96 for 8, by ten runs.
Craig Vibert hit 20 runs and Andrew Bichard took three wickets for 19 runs for the victors.
